In its second event of the weekend, Fight To Win Pro 25 takes place tonight with a card full of exciting match ups and some familiar names.
Headlining the card is a Gi bantamweight title match between multiple time world champion, Mackenzie Dern and No-Gi world champion, Pati Fontes.
These two competitors are two of the very best athletes of their generation and have proven it time and time again. Dern is coming in to this match fresh off a European open gold medal and will be confident that she will walk away having successfully defended her title.
Fontes is no slouch and this is the first time we’ve seen Fontes in a super fight, but having faced Dern previously at a 5ive Grappling event, where she lost via cross collar choke from mount, she knows she’ll be facing an uphill battle to beat Dern in this match.
The co-main sees Jeff Glover looking to defend his lightweight No-Gi title against one of the best grapplers in the game and current UFC fighter, Augusto ‘Tanquinho’ Mendes.
Glover will be coming into this match on the back of a loss at Submission Underground 3 last weekend to another UFC fighter, Chad Mendes. Glover will be keen to get back to winning ways, however he couldn’t have asked for a tougher opponent for his next match.
Holding wins over the likes of Leandro Lo, Gui Mendes, Rafa Mendes and Cobrinha makes Mendes one of the greatest featherweight grapplers of his generation, if not all time. No doubt Glover will attempt to make this match as entertaining as possible, expect Mendes to be all business and get his work done as quickly as possible.
The last fight on the main card is between two accomplished grapplers who like to entertain in Samir Chantre and Gianni Grippo.
Chantre is a No-Gi world champion and is well known in Jiu Jitsu circles for a devastating toe hold that has finished over 14 opponents going back to 2009. Chantre is more well known for his No-Gi exploits, but can more than hold his own in the Gi and has previously beaten Grippo back in 2014, although only by an advantage.
Grippo is a product of the Berimbolo generation and is well known for his De La Riva guard and his use of the Berimbolo to take the back of his opponents. Grippo does have other tools at his disposal but in a Gi match, expect him to constantly look for the De La Riva grips and look to advance to positions from there.
