It was announced this evening that the main event for the May 14 Submission Underground event will be a match up between former Strikeforce and EliteXC champion, Jake Shields and Marcelo Garcia black belt and recently signed Bellator, fighter Dillon Danis.
Despite voicing his desire for a match up with Jon Jones, Danis has had to settle for Jake Shields, who’s certainly no walkover himself. Danis has previously competed on shows such as Polaris and in his last outing at Submission Underground beat the durable AJ Agazarm via points.
As well as being a veteran of MMA, Jake Shields is also a very dangerous grappler who has medalled at the ADCC and won the purple belt World’s after only training in the Gi a handful of times prior to the event. Having recently moved to New York to train with the Danaher Death Squad, Shields will have picked up a few new tricks to go with his already outstanding wrestling based style of Jiu Jitsu, making this match up intriguing to say the least.
Also announced for the co-main event is a match between former UFC contender and WEC champion, Urijah Faber and Jiu Jitsu whizz and world champion, Paulo Miyao in a match that pits modern Jiu Jitsu against a more MMA focused submission grappler.
Submission Underground 4 will be streamed live via the FloGrappling subscription service on May 14.
