Known as one of the hardest and most brutal punchers in the UFC, Anthony Johnson’s game plan going into his second fight with Daniel Cormier seemed obvious, or so you’d think.
“Rumble” usually tries to take your head off, and avoid all wrestling exchanges, so you’d think that would be a given in this fight, especially considering he was fighting one of the best wrestlers in the UFC.
Wrong. Johnson wrestled ‘DC’ and eventually, it proved costly, as the 33-yaer-old tired, and was submitted for the second time by Cormier. He announced post fight that he was retiring from the sport, but before doing so repeatedly called for his coach Henri Hooft.
Hooft was nowhere to be seen, evidently frustrated, he seemed to have left the octagon already. It was an emotional moment, seeing Johnson retire, even more so adding the fact that his coach weren’t in the cage to do it with him.
The two did meet backstage, however, and shared an emotional embrace, where Johnson shed tears and admitted it was a mistake to wrestle. You can watch that video below
