UFC Welterweight James Moontasri, who was originally born in Frankfurt, Germany, has announced his retirement from mixed martial arts at aged 28.

The American announced his retirement on Facebook.

Moontasri (9-5 MMA, 2-4 UFC) signed with the UFC with a record of 7-1, but dropped a split decision loss to Joe Ellenberger in his first outing with the promotion. “Moonwalker” rebounded from the loss with a submission over Cody Pfister before being tapped by Kevin Lee at UFC Fight Night 71. A first round stoppage over Anton Zafir at UFC 193 ended up being Moontasri’s last UFC win, as he lost both of his last two bouts, both by decision.
