This is certainly not something I thought I’d be writing, but I definitely understand it. UFC Middleweight Tim Kennedy has announced his retirement from mixed martial arts; his last outing was a third round TKO loss to Kelvin Gastelum.
Kennedy announced the news via his Facebook page.
Kennedy (18-6) made a name for himself in Strikeforce, competing twice for the Strikeforce Middleweight Championship, losing both times to ‘Jacare’ Souza and Luke Rockhold. Th 37-year-old made his UFC debut in 2013 at UFC 162, and won a decision over Roger Gracie. That was followed by a knockout victory over Rafael Natal before Kennedy headlined his first UFC event, and outpointed Michael Bisping throughout five rounds to take the win in Canada. Kennedy’s next bout ended up being a very controversial one, after his opponent, Yoel Romero, stayed on the stool way over the time limit going into the third round, and then finished Kennedy in the third. The US Army veteran took 15-months off before returning to the cage, but was stopped by Kelvin Gastelum in the aforementioned bout.
