UFC Middleweight Ricardo Abreu has officially retired from mixed martial arts following the announcement he had failed a USADA drug test whilst still serving time for failing a USADA drug test.

Abreu told MMAFighting.com on Friday that he had decided to call it a day, saying he needs to spend more time with his family and concentrate on his mental health.

Abreu (5-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) competed on The Ultimate Fighter Brazil Season 3, but was eliminated by Marcio Alexandre Jr. The Brazilian made his UFC debut at UFC Sao Paulo, where he submitted Wagner Silva in the second round of their bout. In his second, and most recent outing, Abreu lost a split decision to Jake Collier at UFC Fight Night 68.
