The flyweight bout between Louis Smolka and Ray Borg was one many fans were looking forward to, and it certainly did not disappoint. The two 125lbers went back and forth for 15 minutes with Borg walking away with a well deserved victory.

Borg ended up on top very early in the first, and had Smolka cut early. Throughout the first round, the 23-year-old managed to maintain dominant, and dangerous positions as well as coming out on the better end of many scrambles. Following the first round, the debate weren’t who had won, it was whether it was a 10-9 round or a 10-8 round for Borg.

“The Tazmexican Devil” carried the momentum into the second round, and it was much more of the same. The fight once again took place mainly on the ground, and once again, Borg was getting the better of Smolka time and time again. Despite missing weight by more than 3lbs yesterday, Borg continued to push the pace and show that he weren’t affected by the weight issue. Borg took round 3 pretty easily too.

Between round two and round three, Borg, sat on the stool, said “I’ve broke my ankle”. Then, well then he laughed about it, made a joke to his cornermen and got on with the fight. Standing up from the stool, and starting the third round, Borg showed no sign of the broken ankle, which goes to show how tough he is. Borg again was on the better end of the ground exchanges, and came excruciatingly close to finishing at one point. Smolka ended up in a deep arm triangle choke, and he was in there for a while. Borg had it in deep, but the fence was preventing him from circling out further, and therefore he couldn’t tighten the choke. Eventually Borg moved to mount and released the choke.

Borg improves his record to 10-2 while Smolka drops his second loss in a row and now holds a record of 11-3.
