UFC Lightweight Leonardo Mafra has been pulled from his scheduled bout at UFC on FOX 21 against Michel Prazeres due to a failed eye test.

Brazilian outlet Combate reported that the eye injury was suffered in Mafra’s last bout againt Anthony Njokuani under Croation organisation Final Fight Championship.

Mafra’s manager told BloodyElbow.com that there was a risk the fighter would detach his retina if he takes the fight against Prazeres on July 23. He was told by a doctor that he will need at least two months to heal.

“Macarrao signed a contract with the UFC and everything went according to plan. Unfortunately, he suffered a small eye injury which made him not pass his eye test…” said Sartori.

UFC on FOX 20 takes place live from the Uniter Center in Chicago, Illinois on July 23 and is set to be headlined by a women’s bantamweight match-up between former champion Holly Holm an Valentina Shevchenko.
