Kelvin Gastelum’s whole UFC career has been a weird mess, mainly due to his weight cutting. He struggles to make welterweight, but he doesn’t want to fight at middleweight?

Well, at UFC 206, the former TUF winner was forced to fight at 185lbs, and against one of the top fighters in the division, Tim Kennedy.

Kennedy used his strength and wrestling to be the better fighter early on, but late into the first round, his gas tank started to empty, and Gastelum started to land. The jab was constantly there and the southpaw continuously followed up with the straight left behind it.

The first round could have went either way, but the second round was definitely Gastelum’s, with the American outscoring Kennedy on the feet. The third round was where Gastelum really started to land, Kennedy was exhausted, and was getting tagged over and over again.

With every second the fight went on, Gastelum was growing, and Kennedy was slowing down. Then, it was the finish. The Kings MMA product tagged Kennedy with a left hand, dropping him, and then landed a few more shots as Kennedy turtled up waiting for the referee to step in.

Gastelum is now 3-0 at 185lbs, but said in his post fight interview with Joe Rogan that he wants to go back down to 170lbs for his next bout.
