A welterweight clash between former welterweight champion Johny Hendricks and Kelvin Gastelum is set to take place at UFC 207.
The UFC announced the bout on Tuesday night.
Hendricks (17-5 MMA, 12-5 UFC) went 10-1 in the promotion prior to fighting Georges St. Pierre for the welterweight title. Hendricks went five rounds with GSP and lost a highly controversial split decision. Following the bout, St. Pierre announced he was taking a hiatus from the sport, and vacated his belt, which set up a vacant title bout between Hendricks and Robbie Lawler. After a five round war which earned Fight of the Night honors, Hendricks walked away with the decision, and the welterweight title. Hendricks faced Lawler in an immediate rematch at UFC 181, and lost the bout by decision. Rebounding from the loss, Hendricks faced Matt Brown at UFC 185, and won the bout via decision. “Big Rigg” is currently on a two fight skid, with losses to Stephen Thompson and Kelvin Gastelum respectively.
Magny (18-5 MMA, 11-4 UFC) went 1-2 in his first three UFC bouts, before putting together a 7-fight win streak with four stoppages over names such as Tim Means, Alex Garcia and Hyun Gyu Lim. Magny’s streak was snapped when he was submitted by Demian Maia in the first round of their bout at UFC 190. Following the loss, Magny put together two straight decision victories over Erick Silva and Kelvin Gastelum before stopping Hector Lombard in the third round of their bout at UFC Fight Night 85. In his most recent outing, Magny was stopped by Lorenz Larkin at UFC 202.
UFC 207 takes place live from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on Dec. 30. The card is set to be headlined by a Women’s Bantamweight Championship fight between current champion Amanda Nunes and former champion Ronda Rousey.
