Ben Saunders returned to the octagon tonight following his one fight stint outside of the promotion, as he faced Court McGee. Saunders walked away with a unanimous decision, but it certainly weren’t one everybody agreed with.

In the first round, Saunders came out, and continuously smashed left kicks the the body and the arms of McGee McGee kept rushing forward trying to land his own shots, and did land a few, but the verdict after the first was that Saunders had taken the round.

The second round was a different story. Saunders employed the same game plan, but started to fade, his gas tank was nearing on empty, and McGee was coming back into the fight. McGee started to land short, hard shots and was tagging Saunders with nice combinations time and time again. It was another close round, but this time, the majority of viewers scored the round to McGee.

McGee is known as a fighter who gets stronger the longer the fight goes on, and that he did. As Saunders continued to tire, McGee continued to get better. Again, the third was close, but McGee landed a takedown and managed to end the round on top, landing hard shots on Saunders.

It seemed the verdict was going to go to Court McGee, but Bruce Buffer read out Ben Saunders’ name and it was greeted with a lot of confusion and disagreement. With the win, Saunders improves to 21-7-2 while McGee drops to 18-6.
