Ross Pearson, who dropped a unanimous decision to Will Brooks just under a week ago, already has another fight booked. The Brit has stepped in to replace Siyar Bahardurzada at welterweight and will face Jorge Masvidal.
ESPN.com reported the news on Wednesday.
Pearson (19-11 (1NC) MMA, 11-8 UFC) has competed in the UFC since 2009 when he won The Ultimate Fighter Season 9. Since then, “The Real Deal” has been hot and cold, only managing to put together two win streaks during his time. In his last nine fights, Pearson has consistently won one and lost one. Pearson defeated Chad Laprise in Brisbane in March of 2016 before stepping in to fight Will Brooks at The Ultimate Fighter 23 Finale. Pearson lost the closely contested bout via Unanimous Decision.
Masvidal (29-11 MMA, 6-4 UFC) is in desperate need of a win as he’s currently on a two fight skid for the first time in his career. After knocking Cezar Ferreira out in the first round in July of 2015, Masvidal faced former UFC Lightweight Champion Benson Henderson at UFC Fight Night 79 and lost the fight via Split Decision. In his most recent outing, Masvidal faced Lorenz Larkin but eventually lost the bout via split decision.
UFC 201 takes place live from the Philips Arena in Atlanta, Georgia on July 30. The card is set to be headlined by a welterweight title fight between current champion Robbie Lawler and Tyron Woodley.
