Wrestling standout turned MMA fighter Mike Grundy has made a name for himself on the UK scene in his first nine fights, but now ventures to Japan, to face one of their own.

The Englishman’s next contest will be at Shooto Japan on January 29, where he will face Yutaka Saito. Grundy himself announced the bout on his Facebook page.

Grundy (8-1) is riding a five fight win streak, and went 3-0 prior to that, with his lone loss coming at BAMMA 19 against Damian Stasiak. Following the loss, Grundy met Damian Frankiewicz, and won via submission in the first round. The Team Kaobon product then defeated Marley Swindells via decision in his first bout of 2016. Grundy then faced Zsolt Fenyes in the co-main event of ICE FC 17, and picked up a stoppage victory. The Englishman then competed on ICE FC 18, this time stopping Daniel Vasquez. Just under one month later, Grundy faced Fouad Mesdari in the main event of SHINOBI WAR 9, and picked up another first round stoppage.

Saito (12-2-2) is coming off only his second loss, so will be looking to rebound from that. Prior to the loss, the Japanese fighter went on a nine fight win streak, with two draws mixed in there. A draw against Keita Kono was followed by a three fight win streak, before another draw, this time with Kazuhide Shirota. Following the second draw, Saito has won six straight, with two submission victories. In his last fight, the 29-year-old lost a tight split decision to Isao Kobayashi in the main event of VTJ 8.

Shooto Japan takes place live from the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan on January 29th.
