FightStar Championship returned to the Brentford Fountain Leisure Centre this past weekend with a thrilling seventeen-fight card that produced fourteen finishes.
Welterweights Bjarki Thor Palsson (3-0-0) and Alan Procter (0-2-0) fought in the main event, having previously shared the cage at FightStar Championship 8. Palsson was declared the winner in the initial contest after Procter was disqualified for landing an illegal knee.
Procter started the rematch aggressively, throwing heavy combinations at every opportunity. Palsson defended intelligently and was able to avoid taking any significant damage before dragging Procter to the canvas. Palsson cruised from top position, expertly maintaining position whilst feeding Procter on a steady diet of short punches and elbows.
A game Procter survived the first round onslaught, but ultimately succumbed to the ground and pound of Palsson in the second, much to the joy of the Icelandic contingent in attendance.
Luton’s John Shink (3-0-0) turned in the most complete performance of the night, masterfully dissecting Julian Villanova (3-2-0). Shink was able to limit his Canadian counterparts offerings on the feet by constantly peppering him with kicks to the leg. Shink upped the tempo in the second stanza and sealed the deal with a flush right-hook, sending Villanova crashing to the canvas.
22-year old Jamie Richardson (4-3-0) collected his second straight TKO victory, pounding out Ivan Golod (0-4-0) in just 80-seconds. After narrowly avoiding Richardson’s right-hand in the opening exchanges, Golod dropped to the canvas in search of a heel-hook. Richardson countered correctly, posturing to his feet from the ashi garami position, where he reigned down a flurry of right hands until referee Rich Mitchell was forced to intervene.
Also on the main card, Cheya Saleem (1-1-0) fought back from a tough first round to TKO Jack Young (3-3) with punches and Team Crossface’s Sam Patterson (1-0-0) made a successful transition to the pro ranks with a dominant display over Sean Flynn (1-1-0).
SBGi product Akonne Wanliss (7-1-1) captured the FSC Lightweight European Championship in the evening’s lone title tilt. Wanliss, who reached the quarter finals of the IMMAF World Championships last summer, ensnared New Wave Academy’s Hascen Gelezi with a triangle choke in the opening moments of the fight.
London Shootfighters product Farid Basharat (4-0-0) showed why he is so highly touted with a quick demolition of Omar Sargent (2-1-0). After a mere 58-seconds, Basharat uncorked a stiff right-hand which found its target, immediately rendering Sargent unconscious.
Premier MMA’s Ryan Osgood (2-0-0) provided one of the standout moments of the night with a thrilling last-minute submission of Ashley Hamilton (2-1-0).
