On Saturday, September 24, BCMMA will return, looking to carry on where Kerry Hughes and Clemence Schrieber left off in the main event of BCMMA 16.
That fight was a great showcase for WMMA, and the promotion are carrying on the trend with another women’s title fight in the main event of BCMMA 17.
Current strawweight champ, Bryony Tyrell (3-0) is set to make the first defence of her title, standing in her way come fight night is Helen Harper (4-1).
Tyrell has never shied away from tough match ups and has always looked for the best opponents, rather than padding out her record – this fight is no exception. Last time out at BCMMA 16, Tyrell was crowned the strawweight champion when she defeated Mellony Geugjes, who herself is a former world champion kickboxer. This made history for Tyrell as she added the BCMMA professional title to the amateur strap she won last year.
Her opponent Helen Harper, has fought all over the world, competing in Malaysia, Guam and Las Vegas, and has faced some tough opposition in her short career, including UFC fighter Cortney Casey. You may be familiar with Harper, she comes into the fight having recently been a part of TUF 23: Team Joanna vs. Team Claudia. On the show she made it into the house and was a member of Team Joanna. In the house she faced Lanchana Green in the opening round, losing via unanimous decision after the fight went to a sudden death third round.
Speaking exclusively to The Sprawl, BCMMA promoter Jack Mason couldn’t hide his excitement for this fight:
“Super excited to have our champion Bryony back on BCMMA, she’s is unbeaten as a professional and never in a boring fight. She faces the talented Helen Harper, a TUF 23 veteran who herself is an exceptional grappler and experienced pro. The girls always bring it, and this is one not to miss!”
Stay tuned to The Sprawl as we bring you more announcements from the upcoming BCMMA 17 card in the coming weeks.
As always, BCMMA 17 takes place at Colchester’s Charter Hall and will be packed with some of the best amateurs from around Europe and an exciting pro card as well. Early bird tickets are available at just £20 HERE.
