The Sprawl can today reveal that Luis Gonzalez (6-2) and Jamie Powell (5-0) will compete for the BCMMA flyweight title at BCMMA 16 on July 23rd. Previous champ Andy Young has vacated the title leaving the two prospects to battle it out for the gold.

Gonzalez has previously fought for the BCMMA title, losing via TKO to Andy Young in the main event of BCMMA 12. That fight was back in October last year and he will be hoping it’s second time lucky for him in July. Known for his exciting ground game and fighting out of Team Titan, Gonzalez has picked up the title of Brad Pickett’s protégé. Regulars of BCMMA will be very aware of Gonzalez, who has picked up three wins and only one loss in his time fighting at Colchester’s Charter Hall is always involved in an entertaining fight.

His opponent at BCMMA 16 is Jamie Powell, who will come in to this fight having picked up the biggest win of his career last time out against Spencer Hewitt in February. Undefeated as a pro, Powell has raced to 5-0 since making his debut in February ’15. Powell fought on one of the biggest UKMMA shows of last year when he beat Arnaud Dos Santos via rear naked choke at BAMMA 21.  Like Gonzalez, Powell has a solid ground game which could make this a potential fight of the night candidate for the fans.

This fight will be the featured bout of the BCMMA 16 undercard before the all female professional main card begins.

As always, BCMMA 16 takes place at Colchester’s Charter Hall on 23rd July and is headlined by the return of Kerry Hughes who takes on Stephanie Page for the female bantamweight title.
