The Sprawl can today announce that Wendy McKenna is to vacate her BCMMA amateur titles and make her professional debut on December 3 at BCMMA 17.

McKenna will be dropping down to atom weight, a division she identifies as her natural fighting weight but one in which she has struggled to find opponents to fight as an amateur.

As an amateur, McKenna has taken fights at various weights just to make sure she could get a fight and even made the UK team for the IMMAF European Championships last year.

The McKenna name is one which may be familiar to fight fans as Wendy’s daughter Cory is also a competitor, one that normally walks away with a medal around her neck or a belt around her waist.

McKenna vs. Wu BCMMA 17

McKenna’s opponent at BCMMA 17, Ella Wu (0-1) will also be looking for her first win as a pro following an unsuccessful debut against Ayaka Miura at Deep Jewels 4 in Tokyo, Japan back in May, 2014.

Can McKenna make it a debut to remember or will Wu pick up her first victory as a pro?

Also added to BCMMA 17 is Emrah Sonmez vs. Ben Deller-Smith in a professional lightweight battle.

Sonmez vs. Deller-Smith BCMMA 17

Sonmez (4-1) comes into this fight on a winning streak, having won his last four, finishing three of those fights inside the distance. He was last in action at UCMMA 47 where he defeated Mickey Milllar via first round TKO.

HIs opponent, Deller-Smith (2-2) will be looking to end a two-fight win draught, having started his professional career with two wins. Both of those victories came via submission, specifically rear-naked chokes. Deller-Smith will be making his return to the cage after a three year break and was last in action against Robert Skujins at Fury MMA 8 in June 2013, before that taking Sean Carter (also competing at BCMMA 17) to a decision, albeit in a losing effort at UCMMA 28.

These bouts only add to what is going to be a great night of fights in Colchester’s Charter Hall on December 3. Tickets are available HERE.
