Former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion and one of the biggest names in the sport of mixed martial arts, Ronda Rousey, is back on December 30th. Yes, she will fight, but no, she won’t be interacting with media.

Rousey has not been seen since her devastating knockout loss to Holly Holm at UFC 193, and since the loss feels like MMA media ‘turned on her’. Is she correct in thinking this? No. It’s really simple, Ronda has a grudge against anybody who praised or paid attention to Holly Holm after the fight.

Whether it be Paige VanZant or a media outlet, Ronda Rousey refuses to talk to you if you were involved in talking about the fight afterwards. This, well, this is silly and childish. There’s not one UFC fighter on the planet that likes losing, but some handle it better than other. Remember when Conor McGregor, the man who seemed completely invincible went into a fight that he was meant to win easily. That situation was pretty much the same as Rousey’s, but the only difference was the fact Conor spoke to media and gave his take on the fight following the loss. Rousey just disappeared, and now refuses to interact with the media.

Here’s the thing, without the hype and all the attention from the media, Rousey wouldn’t be as big as she is now. She’s undeniably a phenomenally talented athlete, and would still have won the title, but she wouldn’t be as famous as she is now. Rousey is pretty much turning her back on what made her, and the most frustrating thing about it (for media), is the fact she can afford to do that.

If Ronda never did another interview with an MMA outlet, she’d still be a world famous star, and she still has talk shows to go on such as Ellen… I don’t know any more talk shows, I apologise. The thing that has interested me throughout this whole saga is whether Ronda will speak to media after the fight should she win.

A lot of people consider this an ‘act’, which I partly agree with, but I do not agree that she will talk to media afterwards. Maybe she will, but here’s the way I look at it; Remember the beef Ronda had with Miesha Tate? The two went back and forth for years and years and after the conclusion after their second fight at UFC 168, Miesha extended her hand and Ronda refused to shake it.

Rousey is a person that holds grudges, and when I say she holds grudges, I mean, she really does. Big or small, she will not forgive you for what you’ve done. Now, if this is all an act or she just wants to ‘stay focused’, then she should talk to media afterwards, but she has repeatedly criticised media and I cannot see it happening.

That being said, I’d love for Rousey to talk to media following the fight, just to get her take on what this whole debacle has been like. We’ll have to wait and see, but if Ronda wins and doesn’t talk to media, I’m sure I won’t be the only one disappointed.
