It emerged last night that former UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar had notified the UFC of his decision to retire.

This is the second time Lesnar has retired, the first came after two straight losses and various health issues.

In what was quite a surprise, it was announced that Lesnar would return to the cage at UFC 200. In the lead-up to the fight, there was much speculation that Lesnar was not competing cleanly, and them suspicions were confirmed after the fight, as he popped for clomiphene.

Lesnar originally walked away from UFC 200 with a decision win over Mark Hunt, but following the failed drug test, the fight was overturned to a No Contest. It seemed that the failed drug test would be confirmation that Lesnar was done with MMA, but there was no official word until now.

Now to the question: Is he really done?

Yes. I think… Maybe… In my opinion. Lesnar is 39 now, 40 in July, and at this age, with his past health problems and all of the grueling aspects of this sport, I can’t see him making a return. What does he really get out of stepping in the cage again? A truck load of money is the first thing that comes to mind, but I’m pretty sure he doesn’t need anymore of that. Maybe it’s the thrill of competing in front of thousands of people? He can still get that in the WWE.

It’s extremely unlikely we see Brock ever make another run at the title; I’m completely ruling that out. I am not, however, ruling out the possibility of his ever fighting in the UFC again, because he earns the UFC a lot of money, but I do think it’s very unlikely.
