It has emerged today that the Ultimate Fighting Championship are planning to hold a flyweight championship fight between titleholder Demetrious Johnson and former bantamweight kingpin TJ Dillashaw.

UFC President Dana White reported the news to Brett Okamoto of ESPN.

Johnson (26-2-1) is currently ranked at #1 in the pound for pound rankings, and with good reason. The American has won 12-straight fights, defending his flyweight crown ten times and amassing six finishes.

Dillashaw (14-3) dethroned Renan Barao to win the UFC Bantamweight Championship before defending it twice. The Team Elevation fighter lost his strap in a razor close fight to Dominick Cruz, and has since won two straight fights. This will be Dillashaw’s first outing at 125lbs.

Neither White nor Okamoto gave an exact date, or event for that matter, with Okamoto just stating he was told the fight was being planned for August.
