Following an injury to Claudio Puelles, John Makdessi has stepped in to face Sage Northcutt at UFC 214.

The Canadian Press first reported the news.

Makdessi (14-6) will be fighting for the first time since his highlight reel KO loss to Lando Vannata at UFC 206. The Canadian was coming off a split decision victory over Mehdi Baghdad, which took place at UFC Las Vegas.

Northcutt (8-2) is coming off a second round submission loss to Mickey Gall, a fight which took place at welterweight. His only other welterweight bout ended in another second round submission loss, with this one coming to Bryan Barberena. “Super” holds a 3-2 UFC record.

UFC 214 takes place live from the Honda Centre in Anaheim, California, on July 29, 2017. The card is set to be headlined by a light heavyweight championship fight between Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones.
