Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez returns this Saturday, and faces the man who originally dethroned him, Fabricio Werdum. The first encounter between the two ended with Werdum securing a guillotine in the third round. Both men are currently coming off a victory over Travis Browne.
Velasquez will be coming to the end of his training camp now, nine days out from UFC 207, and it’s likely a feeling of relief, as the AKA product hasn’t had it easy this fight camp. The #2 ranked heavyweight told ESPN’s Brett Okamoto that he has been taking medical marijuana as a way to combat back pain and also admitted he has a surgery booked for January 4th.
Just spoke to @CainVelasquez_. He has back surgery scheduled Jan. 4. Used medical marijuana to dull pain in camp. Crazy stuff. Story soon.

Yes, Cain’s fight is still on. He’s been able to train hard, wrestle, spar, etc. Found medical marijuana to be best/safest pain medication.

Okamoto did confirm the fight between Werdum and Velasquez is still on, and the American simply used the drug to dull pain during training and is still able to train 100%.
