Contenders East Anglia 17 unravelled on Saturday night, from their usual home at the Norfolk Showground Arena.
Middleweight powerhouse Jason “The Assassin” Radcliffe (11-2) was featured in the Contenders Norwich headline slot for the second consecutive event, this time facing off against Frenchman Wilfried Edmund (6-3). The bout would end in controversy, as Edmund left the cage after the third round, ostensibly thinking the contest was over. The bout, which was for the Contenders Middleweight title, was actually scheduled for five 5-minute rounds, leading Daniel Mohvaedi to declare Radcliffe the winner due to TKO.
In the evening’s co-feature, Corrin Eaton (9-2) swiftly submitted Igor Camino Mora (6-5) in a featherweight contest with a guillotine choke. Eaton, who now owns four victories due to chokes, finds himself in the midst of a three-fight win-streak, meanwhile Mora has dropped two consecutive contests.
Spanish flyweight Daniel Barez (7-4) scored the biggest upset of the night, as he submitted #6 ranked Jamie Powell (6-1) with a rear-naked choke. Barez, who is a previous opponent of Chris Miah, secured the finish in the third and final round, bringing his record for the year to 2-1. Powell on the other hand loses for the first time in his professional MMA career.
Also on the the card, Kimbo Thinghaugen (5-3) secured yet another highlight reel finish, channelling his inner Edson Barboza in a wheelkick-induced TKO stoppage of Andre Gonclaves (2-1-1). Norway’s Thinghaugen made waves this past February when he submitted Huseyin Garabet with the ultra-rare twister in the Warrior Fight Series 5 main event.
