BCMMA returns this weekend to Colchester’s Charter Hall for BCMMA 16, where history will be made. For the first time, BCMMA will be headlined by a women’s bantamweight title fight. BCMMA have always had a strong female presence within its card, but this weekend, Kerry Hughes and Clemence Schreiber will bring the night to a close as a new 135lbs champion will be crowned.

We caught up with BCMMA’s promoter Jack Mason to discuss this weekends card.

“The professional card for BCMMA 16 is worth the ticket price alone! We have four title fights, featuring eight of the most exciting fighters in Europe!” commented Mason.

“The amateur undercard is packed full of local talent, and some of the best fighters in the UK and Europe. Local star James Webb tops the undercard, which should see the place erupt with support for the local man as he contests for the vacant middleweight title.”

Focusing on the main event, Kerry Hughes fights for the first time since Cage Warriors: Super Saturday in June ’14 – where she picked up a very impressive victory over Amanda Kelly.  Clemence Schreiber comes into the fight hoping to make it three wins in her last four fights.

“Kerry Hughes makes her return after a two year break and looks to pick up where she left off, following a huge KO of World Thai Boxing Champion, Amanda Kelly and faces French banger Clemence Schreiber for the vacant bantamweight title.”

The co main event sees featherweight champion, and one of the UK’s best 145lb fighters, Stephen Martin return following a very impressive victory over Steve Aimable at BCMMA 14. His opponent on Saturday, Arnold Quero comes into this fight having won seven of his last eight, with the other being ruled a no contest. Five of those seven victories came by way of TKO, this is going to be a fight for the fans.

“Stephen Martin makes his first defence of his featherweight strap, against French phenom Arnold Quero – which should be an incredible bout, pitting two of Europe’s best featherweights against each other for the BCMMA strap.”

Also on the professional card, a new flyweight champion will be crowned as undefeated Jamie Powell takes on Owen Gayle – who recently picked up a huge win when he knocked out Luis Gonzalez in the first round at Shock ‘n’ Awe. This again, is certain to be a fight the fans in attendance will want to keep focused on, as both men have the ability to make this a short but exciting fight.

“An incredibly intriguing domestic Flyweight bout goes down between unbeaten Jamie Powell and the explosive Owen Gayle and neither are going to take a backwards step in what could be a hot favourite for fight of the night.”

Finally, we get to another women’s fight as Bryony Tyrell takes on Mellony Geugjes. Tyrell returns to action following an impressive victory over Samantha Jean Francois at BCMMA 15, where she kept her undefeated record intact. If Tyrell can pick up the win, she will add the BCMMA strawweight professional title to the BCMMA amateur strawweight title she previously held. However, in her way is a very highly decorated kickboxer who fights out of one of the most renowned K1 gyms in the world, Mike’s Gym.

“BCMMA fan favourite, Bryony Tyrell returns to challenge for the professional strawweight belt, this time versus elite Dutch kickboxer and TUF veteran, Mellony Geugjes. Bryony has impressed previously with her high-paced striking and wrestling style, and it will be interesting to she how she fairs against someone with the elite striking credentials like Geugjes possesses.”

BCMMA is sure to be an exciting card as always, the amateurs always deliver and, as mentioned above, the professional card has four very good match ups. Get down to Colchester’s Charter Hall.
